I'm a double major in Industrial Design (B.S.) and Literature, Media, and Communication (B.S., with concentrations in Media and Design), with a minor in Sociology, at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
My first degree of Literature, Media, and Communication offered me a place to learn many digital, 2D design skills and the ability to analyze media as a foundation for creating work. It was through a degree specific course in 3D Animation that I realized my passion for designing the experience of a three dimensional space. The next semester I added my Industrial Design major and dove headfirst into a new side of design.
Where I’d learned visual design basics, user testing, and an ability to do basic research as part of my first major, Industrial Design pushed the importance of comprehensive research in the design process, emphasized prolific ideation and concept development, and developed skills both in software and machinery to bring those concepts into a space where they could then be analyzed, tested, and improved.
I found my place in graphic design and industrial design separately, but discovered that my passion lies in their intersection – in developing the connection between the design of a product and its graphic design.
